Privacy notice
Openhold is a product about not hoarding other people’s data. It would be strange to start by hoarding yours. This page tells you exactly what we hold, which is very little.
Who is responsible
This website is run by Michael Barrows, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, trading as Openhold. There is no company yet, so the data controller is a person, and that person is me.
You can reach me at privacy@openhold.co.uk about anything on this page.
What we collect, and nothing else
If you join the early access list, we store:
- Your email address. Because we cannot email you without it.
- Your country. Cloudflare works this out from your connection. We store the country, not the address it came from. Openhold is a UK product, so this tells us whether we are reaching the right people.
- The date and time you signed up.
That is the entire record. We do not store your name, your IP address, your browser, your device, or your building.
Your IP address is used momentarily, in the request itself, so that Cloudflare Turnstile can check you are not a bot. It is not written to our database and we never see it afterwards.
Why, and on what basis
We use your email address for one purpose: to tell you when Openhold opens to its first buildings. The lawful basis is your consent, which you gave by entering your address and asking us to.
We will not sell it, rent it, share it with anyone, or use it to send you anything else.
How long we keep it
Until Openhold launches and we have told you, or until you ask us to remove you, whichever comes first. If the project does not go ahead, we will delete the list and say so.
Who else touches it
We use as few third parties as we can.
- Cloudflare hosts this site, stores the sign-up list, and provides the bot check. They act on our instructions as a processor.
- Google Fonts. The typefaces on this site are served by Google, which means your browser connects to Google to fetch them, and Google will see your IP address as part of that request. We are working on serving the fonts ourselves so that stops happening.
There are no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising, and no third-party cookies on this site. We do not know who you are or how you got here.
Your rights
You can ask us, at any time, to:
- tell you what we hold about you
- correct it
- delete it
- stop using it
You can also withdraw your consent at any time, and every email we send will have a one-click way to do that. Email privacy@openhold.co.uk and we will action any of the above. It will not take long, because there is not much to action.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator. We would rather you told us first, but it is your right either way.
Changes
If this notice changes, we will update the date below. If it changes in a way that materially affects you, we will email you, because we can.
